Bicornuate uterus is a type of uterine anomaly that causes the uterus to resemble a heart, hence the common name heart-shaped uterus. There is a longitudinal septum that forms two horns.

Depending on the extension of the septum, we can distinguish:

Partial bicornuate uterus
The septum extends into the uterine cavity only.
Complete bicornuate uterus
The septum extends into the uterine cavity and the internal cervical orifice of the uterus.
