Surrogacy in Georgia (Europe) for US parents

According to the legislation of the Republic of Georgia, the intended parents will be deemed as the legal parents of every child born using a surrogate in the country. However, the US Department of State has established other requirements in order for children born by surrogacy abroad to acquire US citizenship.

It is important that one US intended parent has a genetic link to the baby; otherwise, acquiring citizenship won't be possible. DNA testing will be required. Moreover, the IPs must apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of an American Citizen (CRBA) and a U.S. passport for the child at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia.
